Editorial: Political Power-plays

Here is a link to Project SEEEDs' co-founder Peter Maniscalco's editorial, published in the April 27th paper edition of Newsday.  In it, he explains why he thinks Caithness II (and repowering the legacy plants) are still contenders in our energy market despite PSEG's findings that Long Island does not need any new power generation until at least 2024.

Maniscalco's final paragraph, omitted by Newsday, should have read as follows:

"Gov. Cuomo can set a positive example for all Long Island school children by saying 'no' to out-dated, politically motivated repowering studies and 'no' to constructing Caithness II, while saying 'yes' to clean, renewable energy investments which will create 'green' jobs that grow the Long Island economy, while protecting our environment."

NY REV, Batteries, and the Transformation of Utilities.

"Utilities aren’t doomed, but they may undergo a radical transformation, becoming something closer to service providers and minders of an increasingly distributed grid rather than the centralized power producers they are today. Such a system would require lots of batteries to help balance the load and supply extra power during peak times, which is why GTM estimates the market will grow from $48 million today to about $1 billion in 2018."

"By restricting utilities from owning local power generation and other energy resources, customers will benefit from a more competitive market, with utilities working and partnering with other companies and service providers."

Request for REV Hearings on Long Island

The DPS is holding public hearings on Albany's new energy plan, Reforming the Energy Vision, just not on Long Island.  Here is a letter from the Affiliated Brookhaven Civic Organizations formally requesting hearings be held locally.
